A Summer of Cricket Celebrating 100 Years of Doo’cot Park

This summer, Perth Doo’cot Cricket Club (PDCC) and The Gannochy Trust will mark the centenary of the historic Doo’cot Park Cricket Ground with a series of celebratory matches and events, honouring the sporting legacy of one of Scotland’s finest community cricket venues.

Founded in 1925 by renowned Perth businessman and philanthropist A.K. Bell, Doo’cot Park was created as a gift to the city — a space where grassroots cricket could thrive. One hundred years on, the ground remains at the heart of the local sporting community and continues to support players of all ages and abilities.

The centenary celebration will include three commemorative cricket matches, open to the public and free to attend:

  • Perth Doo’cot Cricket Club v Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)
    Wednesday 30th July, 11am–6pm
  • Doo’cot Over 40s Select XI v Scottish Forty Club
    Sunday 3rd August, 12 midday–6pm
  • Doo’cot Over 60s Select XI v Scottish Forty Club
    Sunday 3rd August, 12 midday–6pm

Spectators parking has been provided on Gannochy Green and you are invited to enjoy the
matches at Doo’cot Park and bring your own picnics. The Bite Me Food Truck will also be in attendance on Sunday 3rs August and the Club Bar will be open to the public from 4pm on both event days.

Situated just off Comelybank Road in Perth, Doo’cot Park is owned and maintained by The Gannochy Trust. The ground features two county-level pitches and a striking Category B-listed pavilion, designed by Perth architects Smart, Stewart & Mitchell.

Reflecting on the centenary, Andy Duncan, Chief Executive of The Gannochy Trust, said:

“A.K. Bell was a passionate supporter of community wellbeing and a lifelong cricket enthusiast. He built Doo’cot Park to provide the people of Perth with a space for recreation, community and sport — values that remain at the heart of the Trust’s work today.

I think A.K. Bell would be both proud and delighted to know that 100 years on, cricket continues to be played at Doo’cot Park with the same spirit and enthusiasm he envisioned. His legacy lives on — not only in the physical beauty of the ground, but in the joy, friendship and sense of belonging that cricket continues to bring to this community.”

PDCC President, Matt Crawford said:

“Whilst Perth Doo’cot itself is a relatively new Club, many of it’s Players and Officials are no strangers to Doo’cot Park and it’s magnificent facilities. Cricket in Perth is thriving largely because of the vision of AK Bell and the ongoing support and guidance of the Gannochy Trust.  As a Club, we are open to all and our commitment is set out in our founding objective – to be a Community Club promoting participation in the sport of cricket in Perth. With players ranging from 14-68 in age and at least 8 nations represented in our playing membership, we hope AK Bell would approve.”
